Leaching of plastic polymers by plastic vials used for storing homoeopathic medicines

In Homoeopathy, plastic vials are still used by many to dispense the medicines instead of glass. Homoeopathic dilutions are ethanol-based and it is a well known fact that plastic components leach out when they get in contact with ethanol. And this is what exactly happens when we dispense our Homoeopathic medicines in plastic vials.

To understand the above fact, a study was conducted by a team with following members:

  1. Neeraj Gupta – Department of Organon of Medicine, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, India
  2. RK Saxena – Department of Organon of Medicine, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, India
  3. B Sharma – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  4. S Sharma – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  5. AK Agrawal – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  6. M Jassal – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  7. Raj K Manchanda – Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Janakpuri, New Delhi, India.

This study showed that the plastic chemicals leach out and contaminate homoeopathic medicines even at 25˚C ambient temperature within one week period.

This study appeared on Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy/Vol.8/Issue 2/April-June 2014 and you can find this complete study at http://www.ijrh.org/article.asp?issn=0974-7168;year=2014;volume=8;issue=2;spage=95;epage=99;aulast=Gupta

Patients visit the doctors in search of cure for their illness and what they get instead is adulterated medicine which might do more harm than doing good.
