Leaching of plastic polymers by plastic vials used for storing homoeopathic medicines

In Homoeopathy, plastic vials are still used by many to dispense the medicines instead of glass. Homoeopathic dilutions are ethanol-based and it is a well known fact that plastic components leach out when they get in contact with ethanol. And this is what exactly happens when we dispense our Homoeopathic medicines in plastic vials.

To understand the above fact, a study was conducted by a team with following members:

  1. Neeraj Gupta – Department of Organon of Medicine, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, India
  2. RK Saxena – Department of Organon of Medicine, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, India
  3. B Sharma – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  4. S Sharma – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  5. AK Agrawal – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  6. M Jassal – Department of Textile Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India
  7. Raj K Manchanda – Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Janakpuri, New Delhi, India.

This study showed that the plastic chemicals leach out and contaminate homoeopathic medicines even at 25˚C ambient temperature within one week period.

This study appeared on Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy/Vol.8/Issue 2/April-June 2014 and you can find this complete study at http://www.ijrh.org/article.asp?issn=0974-7168;year=2014;volume=8;issue=2;spage=95;epage=99;aulast=Gupta

Patients visit the doctors in search of cure for their illness and what they get instead is adulterated medicine which might do more harm than doing good.

Switch to GLASS PHIALS.

Why Glass Should Be The First And Only choice of medicine dispensing among the Homoeopathic practitioners

Now-a-days, the use of plastic in our everyday life has gone beyond imagination. Every single day we are exposed to various kinds of plastic and their effects on our body. Recently, a lot of research has been conducted on the bad effects of plastic and it is dreadful to see the effects.

Plastic, at many levels, has replaced glass in the field of medicine. But a very little research has been done on the effects of plastic on the different medicines and their properties.

In Homoeopathy, plastic has replaced glass for dispensing the medicines. But even today, in many parts of the world, Homoeopathic medicines are dispensed in glass bottles, which has been the traditional method of dispensing Homoeopathic medicines.

Homoeopathic medicine has alcohol as the medium of the medicine and it is a well-known fact that plastic reacts with alcohol and leaches out harmful chemicals contaminating the alcohol and thus, the medicine and also, affecting the health of the patients who faithfully take Homoeopathic treatment in a hope of a better health.

There is a known practice countrywide of reusing plastic bottles among the Homoeopathic practitioners. This only intensifies the bad effects of plastic in the patients.

The best replacement of plastic is neutral glass. Glass being neutral to alcohol and chemicals, high temperature resistant recyclable product, should be the first and only choice of medicine dispensing among the Homoeopathic practitioners.
